Sessions Requiring Pre-Registration

Pre-registration for 2012 will begin on February 11th, 2012  Please click on the session title.

After you fill in the form and click the submit button you will arrive at a Confirmation page that you can print out.  It shows your registration information and  a timestamp in EST when you submitted.  Keep it until you get an email confirming your registration.

 

Later you will also receive a confirmation email after you register.  Please allow up to 48 hrs. to receive this email.  Please bring a printout of your email to the convention session as proof of your registration.  You may be asked to leave the session if you cannot produce this email when requested.  The email is necessary in case the session overfills before we get a chance to remove the pre-registration link on this page.

In an effort to reduce duplicate registrations, after you submit once, please find a list of all registration results without contact information for all sessions by clicking TBA FOR 2012.  Just in case your name is not listed, it is also a good idea to refresh your browser to make sure you are not on a cached page.

            PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIREDGlenbow Museum is excited to present its distance learning programs!  These programs allow you  and your students to participate in curriculum-based programs via videoconferencing with educators, curators, artists and other experts.  Join Distance Learning Coordinator Kattina Michele and educator Rebecca McKinnon, for an in-depth exploration of the many ways you can virtually visit Glenbow Museum by exploring these programs and online exhibitions.  Session attendees will be able to participate in a distance learning program.  Pre-registration required.  Maximum number of participants is 30.  There is no participant fee. 

 

D25   Social Studies 10 - Using and Creating 21st Century Learning Tools   Jennifer Williams

            PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIREDThis session will provide teachers with lessons that encourage students to develop 21stC skills (like inquiry and the use of technology).  In addition, teachers are encouraged to bring their ideas (and computers) to collaborate with fellow colleagues.  Pre-registration required.  Maximum number of participants is 40.  There is no participant fee. 

                Jen Williams has been teaching Social Studies for 10 years, with experience on several committees sharing ideas with colleagues.  She is currently teaching at Bert Church High School in Airdrie.

F26   EXPERIENCING HISTORY:  CLASSROOM ARCHAEOLOGICAL THINKING   Dan Nash   Gord Snyder   Christie Grekul

            PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIREDThis workshop, which is divided into two parts, introduces archaeological critical thinking strategies and provides “hands-on” exploration of 12 Critical Challenges for Grades 4, 5 and 7 Social Studies.  Part One introduces “Teaching Archaeological Thinking”, a custom Social Studies Legacy Resource developed by the Learning Network through the Alberta Social Studies Implementation Program, which all participants will receive a complimentary copy of.  In Part Two, participants will be guided through exploring the rich historical significance of one of Canada’s largest Aboriginal archaeological historic sites situated near Bodo, Alberta.  Information on public archaeology opportunities and school-based access (live and virtual) at the Bodo site will also be described.  Pre-registration required.  Maximum number of participants is 50.  There is no participant fee.

                Cathy Beveridge is a young adult author and teacher and enjoys mentoring artists in classrooms. She believes passionately in the power of the arts to teach and inspire and is delighted to engage teachers in a creative hands-on session that allows participants to experience this power first-hand.
